I spent a lot of time in my study this weekend, writing a paper… and my answer is:
MY STUDY!!!!! I love, love, love having my bookshelves filled with books, and organized by subject. I love having it clean in there, just one simple desk, and being able to sit at that desk. I’m a huge fan of the window and that it’s often breezy in there despite it being summer and quite quite warm in general. That’s all.

Would love to hear your answers! (We’ll still have the Friday question, but this week we’ll have this Wed question too). :) I’m actually especially interested in this question because I wonder which rooms you guys really love the most – I wonder if it’ll be a range of rooms, or if people will have similar views on which room.
That’s hard for me to answer. I just recently moved into a new house (a little over a month ago) and haven’t really discovered which is my favorite room yet.
:) understandable.
I like my downstairs lair (office) because it’s set up in a way that’s fairly productive. It could probably could be opened up a bit. There are 8 bookshelves filled with books and boxes of stuff, and it’s a bit cramped.
I actually like the guest bedroom a lot; it’s a small bedroom, used to be a nursery so it has yellow walls and is probably the sunniest upstairs room, though none of the rooms are that sunny. I made this my bedroom for a while, using the master bedroom for guests, but I have too much junk so I switched back. I probably would like the master bed better if it wasn’t light blue, and if I had one of those sleigh beds, a desk for reading / writing, and a big chest of drawers.
Although I don’t have favorite rooms per se, I have identified favorite NOOKS of rooms. They’re much easier to set up, so long as you arrange your chair so you can’t see the rest of the mess :-)
Hey, Chris and Dave, the more fun follow-on question is, “So what does that tell you about yourself? That that is your favorite room in your house?!” :)
For me, the study… I love the parts of my life that are organized, that are full of new information, and in which I can relax. :) Best, later, S.
Tricked!!! :-) I guess it says that I like organization but always look for improvements that I can make so they’re more productive, that I like sunny things, and like finding special places that might be hidden in plain site, if you just figure out the right way to look at them. So the rooms/places I like the best are the ones that help me be my best.
Cool, Dave! That’s cool about rooms that help you be your best … totally related to what I was thinking about this morning! Best of the day to you!
I guess it does reveal how chaotic/disorganized things are in my mind…
Wow, what an easy question when your “house” only has two real rooms. (My kitchen hardly qualifies, given how small it is.) For me, the answer would be the living room. I can do so much in it — eat breakfast (at our “dining room” table), read the newspaper while lying on the couch, hang out with my husband, knit, relax.
As to what this says about me? Also easy: My living room is bigger than my bedroom. Hah!
I like the bedroom a lot too, but that’s mainly because I love to sleep!
Lila: Hilarious :-) It reminds me of a project to turn my living room into more of an activity center, with different stations for different things (nooks, again). For a while I was thinking of modeling it more like a really cool coffee shop than a traditional living room. I probably will still do that :-)
It is and always will be my bedroom. It is my sanctuary, my relaxation place, my place to meditate, to let go, and to fill my mind with good books. It is my cocoon sometimes, too. Books line the shelves, art graces the walls, and sun shines in through the windows. What else could a person want?
