“Too many rules get in the way of leadership. They just put you in a box . . . . People set rules to keep from making decisions.”
“The truth is that many people set rules to keep from making decisions. Not me. I don’t want to be a manager or a dictator. I want to be a leader—and leadership is ongoing, adjustable, flexible, and dynamic. As such, leaders have to maintain a certain amount of discretion.”
~ Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K)
hmmm…
I dunno about leadership. I haven’t been in situations much that required me to enact major leadership. All I know is that rules help give me a framework in which I can make decisions more easily. Like, they REMIND me what is important to me and therefore what my boundaries are in making decisions.
When rules become constricting, then you must make some decisions about your decision-making framework… i.e. your VALUES. :)
